Why do alignment meetings backfire?
Teams gather to align definitions and numbers. After hours of discussion, agreement is reached — on paper.
Strangely, confidence drops.
What actually stays unresolved?
Definitions get aligned. Decisions don’t. Different teams still rely on data for different outcomes, so any agreement feels like a compromise — not truth.
What data can’t solve alone
You can’t align numbers without aligning decisions. Otherwise, agreements stay fragile and political.
How I flip the process
I start with decisions and consequences. Which metrics are decisive for which choices? Only then do we align calculations. Data follows decisions — not the other way around.
